Its been a month and another successful Chopped dinner party has past. This time the dinner took place at our loft in Pioneer Square which we delayed our move by 1 week just to have the dinner party. The theme for our dinner was French and while I expected someone to make crepes; no one did, we still had fondue too. The dishes were all amazing even for some of the newbies who opted to make a salad with the ingredients. From oysters to sauteed beets on a baguette to souffle I would say our group is getting pretty sophisticated with the way of winning a chopped dinner party. The challenge is not only using the ingredients but how to transport, heat or re-heat…

I am not sure how I feel about the sliders we prepared last night…to be completely honest, I think I was chopped. I like my hamburgers medium well and all three could have used a couple more minutes on the heat. However, I do think my flavors were a bit more creative :0) – Bacon Blue Cheese, Swiss Shallot & Mushroom and Garlic Parsley…and I cleaned the kitchen (bonus points). To go with the sliders, I decided to make oven-baked sweet potato chips. I popped them in the oven a couple minutes prior to our 30 minute countdown and they were baked to perfection! Tonight Ashley and I decided to make sliders. To add a little bit of twist because we were hungry…we gave ourselves 30 minutes to prepare each other 3 sliders. We tried out a new video app called Social Cam. Here is the initial test video. The 30 minute version to come shortly.

CHA, CHA, CHA! Maggie and I made these for the Chopped Dinner Party and they were a hit! There were a couple recipes out there but we pretty much made our own- so simple and delicious! Preparing the sweet potatoes… 3 sweet potatoes, pealed, cubed and boiled 2 cloves garlic sea salt & pepper, to taste 1/2 tsp butter Add the potatoes to a food processor and blend all ingredients together. Salt and pepper to taste….set aside. Preparing the black beans… 1 can black beans, rinsed lime juice, to taste 1/3 cup cilantro, whole leafs sea salt, to taste Toss black beans, cilantro, a touch of salt and lime juice…set aside. Preparing the chicken breasts… 2 chicken breasts, baked with spices/olive oil and shredded.…
Saturday brought our 2nd Chopped dinner party into the realm of “its now a thing.” The hosts Justine and Ryan absolutely nailed the atmosphere, drinks, voting and main course. I thought there was no way the 2nd dinner would be as fun as the first…but obviously as you read this..it was! a.k.a the dish that didn’t win us any points but still tasted good 😎 <–MM from Ash :: I think if our friends weren’t so nice…we may have been on the chopping block :0) Not because our dishes were subpar (of course), but because ALL the dishes were absolutely delicious! On Thursday when we got the ingredient list…I kind of put the chore of recipe research on the back-burner thinking it was going to be a slam dunk BUT when I woke up on Saturday morning I started to frantically search for ideas. There were lots of yummy obvious appetizers that came to mind but I didn’t want to take the easy way out for the fear of being CHOPPED on lack of creativity. …
This weekend our friends Jake and Brie coordinated one of the funnest dinner parties we have been to in a long while…affectionately named: Chopped dinner party. We are all fans of the show Chopped on Food Network and so they decided to throw a dinner party with Chopped in mind. While this was our first run I bet its still going to be hard to top the fun that was had. Here is how they did it… First through Facebook’s invite/ group featured they invited about 10 people (4 couples and 2 singles). The invite went out on a Monday and the party was on Saturday. On Thursday night the host sent out 8 ingredients of which the contestants had to use 3 (ingredients)…
