Sunday! And I figured we would try something a little different. My music playlist is normally pretty eclectic but lately a song by Vampire Weekend called Horchata got me motivated to make the drink.
Now that I have made Horchata; I find the drink distinctly Seattle…even though Wikipedia would disagree.
Make the drink you will love it.
Here is how to make Horchata…first get 1 cup of long grain rice, in my case basmati was perfect. Next blend 5 cups water and the 1 cup of long grain rice. Blend until the basmati rice is pretty chopped up. Take the entire mixture and pour into a jug and add 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract, 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon, 2/3 cup white sugar, pinch of nutmeg, splash of milk, splash of soy milk. Put the jug in the fridge for 3 hours minimum…but the longer the better.
Finely strain the rice out and the liquid into a new jug.
Serve on ice. FYI…Ash added spiced rum to hers 😎
I am curious to know what you all think…so make it and let me know. I think Horchata is kinda sick for an end of summer, end of the night, before bed, after meal, on a hot summer night or just chilling out after yard work. But again let me know.
Horchata Seattle…done!
